Institutions of Eminence scheme has been launched in order to implement the commitment of the Government to empower the Higher Educational Institutions and to help them become world class teaching and research institutions, as announced by the Hon’ble Finance Minister in his budget speech of 2016. Ten public and ten private institutions are to be identified to emerge as world-class Teaching and Research Institutions. This will enhance affordable access to high quality education for ordinary Indians.
Government of India has recognised the standing of IIT Bombay in the field of academics & research and considered granting Institution of Eminence status during 09/07/2018. We have been promised with a financial support of Rs. 1000 Cr. during the period of IoE project by Ministry of Education with a mandate to strive towards achieving excellence in various fields.
IIT Bombay has bifurcated activities under the broad head Academic support for students and faculty, research, support for World Class Research Labs in thematic areas and common R&D facilities & in administrative areas. With the active support of Ministry of Education, we have gained considerable momentum in the projected field as can be seen from the different menus on the website.
Excellence is an unwritten norm in IIT Bombay and we shall always keep striving towards achieving the same.
