Research Proposals

B1: World Class Research Laboratories under IoE Scheme

Total Funding: Rs. 221 Cr.

In IIT Bombay there is a wide diversity of research areas being explored by appx 700 faculty members and 3000 Ph.D. students with several groups recognised internationally for their contributions. However, considering that resources are limited, only a few laboratories could be supported substantially to bring them to a standard comparable to the best in the world. As a part of IoE   five world class laboratories are being supported. The criteria used for selection of the research laboratories were arrived at based on twin considerations: (1) the laboratory should be led by groups of faculty members with a record of working together and with substantial record of quality research and (2) areas that address the needs of society and are aligned with national initiatives such as “Make in India”, “Digital India”, “Startup India” and “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. Given their past record, it is anticipated that the selected laboratories would be able to rapidly use the proposed investment to make an impact in the time frame outlined. Besides improving the research profile of the Institute, the research results would directly benefit society and industry. A brief description of the proposed laboratories is given in the below links.

B3: Central Research Facilities

IIT Bombay's Research Infrastructure has been constantly upgraded to meet international standards ensuring world class research capabilities. Its prominent status in the forefront of research is evidenced by its impressive array of research facilities.

IoE has funded nearly 100+ State-of-the-art equipment, with a few already operational and the remainder in the process of being commissioned.
